If I had to choose one US state that is perfect for a slow and relaxing summer trip, California would definitely be my answer. What I love about California is actually quite simple. The pace of travel here feels incredibly flexible. I can drive along the coast in the morning, stop at a seaside restaurant for lunch, and then decide where to go next in the afternoon.
Instead of filling every day with a packed schedule, I prefer having a basic plan while leaving myself plenty of room for spontaneity. This time, I decided to focus my trip on the California coast and add an activity I had never tried before: experiencing iFLY Zero to HERO in Oceanside.
Starting My Coastal Trip in Oceanside
I have always felt that the California coast is especially beautiful in summer. When I drive slowly along the coast and watch the sunlight reflecting off the ocean, I can immediately feel myself slowing down.
In my everyday life, I am always watching the clock and trying to stay on schedule. But once I am by the ocean, I start to realize that traveling does not always have to be rushed.
That is why I did not plan too many fixed attractions this time.I wanted to spend more time near the ocean, but I also wanted to try something where I could actually participate instead of simply sightseeing. That was when I became interested in iFLY.
Compared with a typical sightseeing activity, the indoor flight experience at iFLY felt much more exciting and unexpected to me. Since I was already planning to visit Oceanside, I could easily combine the coastal trip with an indoor flight experience and give my California adventure a completely different memory.

The Activity I Was Most Excited About: iFLY Zero to HERO
The activity I was most interested in this time was iFLY Zero to HERO.Unlike a basic introductory experience, this program focuses more on learning through personalized instruction. The goal is to help participants gradually develop the skills needed to fly more independently.
When I first read about it, I was honestly intrigued.I am not someone who is particularly interested in extreme sports.I enjoy trying new things when I travel, but I also like the feeling that I am actually learning something instead of simply spending a few minutes doing an activity and taking a few photos.
In the morning, I could slowly explore Oceanside, enjoy the ocean breeze, and sit down at a local coffee shop. Then, in the afternoon, I could head to iFLY and suddenly switch from a relaxed coastal mood to something a little more exciting and challenging.
Just imagining myself putting on the flight suit, getting my helmet ready, and standing in front of the wind tunnel would already make me excited.
I Know I Would Be Nervous When Facing the Wind Tunnel
I think some of the most exciting moments during a trip happen in the few minutes right before something actually begins. If it were my first time trying iFLY Zero to HERO, I know I would probably feel a little nervous.Watching someone else fly is completely different from actually doing it yourself.
I can imagine myself standing outside the wind tunnel and repeatedly telling myself not to be nervous. But once the experience actually started, I would probably still tense up a little without realizing it.Fortunately, the experience includes personalized coaching, so I would not feel like I was trying to figure everything out completely on my own.
Having an instructor nearby to tell me how to adjust my body and control my movements would definitely make me feel more comfortable. And when I finally felt the airflow lifting my body, I think I would be incredibly excited.
That feeling would be completely different from standing by the ocean and looking at the scenery. One is watching. The other is participating. That is exactly why I was so excited about including iFLY in this trip.
After Flying, I Would Continue Exploring the California Coast
I have never liked traveling with only one destination in mind.So after finishing my iFLY experience, I would not consider the day over.I would continue exploring the coast. If the timing worked out, I would find a restaurant for dinner and slowly watch the sky change colors as the sun went down.
I especially love California evenings in the summer. Once the sun becomes less intense, the temperature near the ocean feels much more comfortable, and the streets start filling up with people.I can already imagine myself having dinner while looking through the photos and videos I had just taken at iFLY.
I think that contrast would be really interesting.A few hours earlier, I would have been standing by the ocean watching people surf. A few hours later, I would have put on the flight gear myself and experienced what it feels like to fly inside the wind tunnel.
When I choose photos for my travel album, I probably would not only keep the beautiful coastal scenery.I would actually want to keep the moment when I first managed to fly.
Why I Think This Kind of Experience Fits My California Trip
In the past, whenever I traveled to a new city, I would start by searching for the must-see attractions. But over the years, I have become less interested in traveling that way. When everyone visits the same places and takes similar photos, I sometimes feel that something personal is missing from the trip.
This time, I wanted to include experiences that actually felt like my own. That is why I would include iFLY in my itinerary rather than treating it as another attraction that I simply needed to check off my list. For me, the biggest appeal of Zero to HERO is that it makes me feel like I am not just an observer.
I am not sitting on the side watching someone else fly. I am actually entering the wind tunnel, listening to the instructor, and gradually learning how to find my balance. That kind of experience makes me feel like I am truly part of the trip.

If I Planned the Trip Again, I Would Do It the Same Way
If I were planning this California summer trip again, I would probably give myself two or three days.On the first day, I would focus on the coastline.I would drive slowly, enjoy the ocean, try some local food, and avoid giving myself too many things that I absolutely had to accomplish.
On the second day, I would schedule my iFLY Zero to HERO experience for the afternoon.I would keep the morning relaxed and then challenge myself with something new later in the day.
After the experience, I would head back toward the coast, find a comfortable spot, and watch the sunset.I really like this kind of itinerary because it never makes me feel like I am constantly rushing from one place to another.
What I Want to Take Home From This Trip Is More Than Ocean Views
I have always believed that what makes me remember a trip is rarely the attraction itself.Sometimes it is a really good dinner. Sometimes it is an unplanned walk along the beach. And this time, I want to add another memory to that list.
I want to remember what it felt like to actually fly at iFLY for the first time. The California coastline helped me slow down, while iFLY brought back that sense of excitement and adventure that I love about traveling.Putting those two experiences together makes me feel like this is exactly the kind of summer trip I enjoy.
I can slow down and enjoy the ocean, but I can also suddenly challenge myself.I can drive along the coast, but I can also change my plans whenever I feel like it.If I return to California again, I think I will still find a way to include iFLY in my travel plans.
Because for me, traveling has never been only about how many places I have visited. What matters more is whether I experienced something new during that particular afternoon. And this time, I want to remember that special afternoon as the moment I took flight with iFLY.
